The master plan is available from Indy Parks. The Metropolitan Development Commission adopted the plan on August 15, 2018.
Renderings
Renderings in master plans are not accurate representations of reality. They are an artist's vision that is used to sell ideas. Excessive use of forest green and overextension of tree canopy is sometimes used as a public relations tactic (greenwashing) to mask future environmental damage.
In the first two renderings below, the community center appears different from the actual structure that was built (see the third illustration below). The renderings show no cars, pedestrians, dogs, children, bicyclists, large-scale events, crowds, congestion, air pollution, noise, or wildlife. We cannot know in advance the amount of green space and trees that would be removed to accommodate the road, parking, and sidewalks in the middle of the park. Saplings planted after construction take years to grow and would be smaller than the trees shown in the renderings.
Implementation
Any element in an officially adopted plan is only a recommendation and not binding or mandatory. Many factors can influence whether a plan’s elements are later implemented.
We urge the City to hold an open public meeting, addresses public Concerns, and redo the master plan!
