The Defenders of Broad Ripple Park envision Broad Ripple Park as a safe, family-oriented, community-scale park with a service radius of three miles -- a buffer from the noise, pollution, and hubbub of the city -- and a natural area where stormwater is filtered, flooding is prevented, urban heat is reduced, and air is purified.
The park is a place for reflection, rejuvenation, peace, and tranquility, offering a refuge in the harmony and beauty of nature. The planned road is fundamentally incompatible with the primary objective of a park. Increased commercial activity compromises the park’s integrity.
Broad Ripple Park is a “true public common,” as often stated by former Indy Parks Director Linda Broadfoot. It must remain a shared resource, accessible to all, free from the detrimental effects of commercial privatization.
The Defenders of Broad Ripple Park will proactively protect the park from development or disruptive programming that depletes or degrades green space, trees, or flora, or that threatens the high-quality recreational and relaxing park experience we currently enjoy.
We will pursue our mission regardless of how promoters or City officials downplay the negative impacts of a new road, crowded weekly farmers markets, and high-decibel concerts.
